Moulin Rouge Stellar in Steamboat Springs Bareback Riding

 

            STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.--- Bad Company Rodeo’s Moulin Rouge took a bareback rider to first place for four consecutive rodeos here.

            The nine-year-old black mare has been nearly flawless throughout the first four rodeos in the series where Bad Company Rodeo from Del Rio, Texas, supplied the livestock. In their final weekend here, Moulin Rouge took Tyrel Nelson from Cheyenne, Wyo., to an 80-point score, good enough for first place.

            Prior to last weekend’s rodeo, Travis Carlson had won two titles on her with scores of 85 and 84. Carlson from Big Piney, Wyo., rode here the first weekend and over the Fourth of July. On June 30th, it was another Wyoming cowboy, Kaylon Knudson from Arvada that had the highest marked ride on her through the series at 87 points.

             Bad Company Rodeo crowned their own series champion during their four rodeos in “the boat.” The championship buckle was awarded to the contestant entered in three events that won the most money through the Bad Company Rodeo portion of the series, Mario Baleztena from Loma, Colo.. He and Terry Hansen from Brush, Colo., were the two contestants that entered three events. They both competed in all three timed events. Baleztena won the Steamboat Springs Series Champion buckle with $596 won in tie-down roping on July 7. He entered all three timed events at three rodeos and was able to hold onto a third place win in tie-down roping.

            The big money winners of the weekend were team ropers Miles Kobold, from Big Horn, Wyo., and Nick Coats from San Angelo, Texas. With Kobold heading and Coats heeling, they stopped the clock in 4.7 seconds to win $1,109 each.

            Walk This Way, Bad Company Rodeo’s super star bull tested Chris Bartlett from Parker, Colo., on Saturday night. Bartlett rode the bull for nearly six seconds before hitting the dirt. Zach Sherrod from Greeley, Colo., won the bull riding with an 84-point ride on Hoochie Koo. He won $714.

            The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series continues this weekend. Carr Pro Rodeo will supply the livestock for the next four rodeos in the series.
